Box 79036 Pittsburgh, PA 15216 Re: Commutation for Robert Wideman Dear Sir or Madame: This letter of support is for Robert Wideman’s attempt to have his life sentence commuted. I have had the opportunity to observe Mr. Wideman for over twenty (20) years and the privilege know him well in the past ten (10) years. We developed a friendship through the Narcotics Anonymous Fellowship, where he truly was an inspiration to my recovery. I witnessed the transformation of Mr. Wideman from a suffering addict to someone who become humble, honest, remorseful and compassionate. He is an individual who has held himself accountable for his actions while continuing to do the next right thing. As a recovering addict myself and someone who served many years in prison, I gained strength and hope from Mr. Wideman's faith, compassion and wisdom. Mr. Wideman was also my college Algebra teacher when I was unable to confront my addiction. I found him not only intelligent, but a person who loves to teach and help others. Today I am a major part of a reputable Heating & Cooling Comp., with 3 1/2 yéars of sobriety. Mr. Wideman played a role in my recovery and for that I an forever grateful. As one of the individuals within my company who screens potential empolyees, I would employ Mr. Wideman upon his release. I do not for one minute minimize the severity of Mr. Wideman's offense. However, in looking at the totality of the circumstances, I believe he should be given strong consideration for Commutation. Society would be better served with Mr. Wideman in the Community. Thank you for your time in this matter. Very Truly Yours, Donald R. Rusch
