April 7, 2002 Pennsylvania Board of Pardon:. 333 Market St., 15th Floor Harrisburg, PA17126-0333 717-787-25 Dear Sir or Madam: Subject: Commutation for Robert Wideman I met Robert Wildeman about 12 years ago. I went to the prison to speak at a Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting. The chairperson of the meeting told me that there was a special person he wanted me to meet. That was the first time I shook hands with Robert. He was very polite and soft spoken. He had a calm to him that I found interesting, as he had spent so much time in jail. Eventually, I took a sponsorship of the NA meeting in the prison. I was there three or four times a month. Robert attended the meetings and we would talk about his achievements, he had earned a College Degree and received several Certificates and Diplomas. He became an Algebra and Trigonomtry Instructor for the University of Pittsburgh teaching the other inmates. I noticed that many ofthe inmates looked up to him and would follow his advice. He set an example to them and to me. Over the past twelve years I have known him as a man of serenity and spirituality. He continuously shows a spirit of helping others to achieve their dreams and goals. Robert is a leader. He has seen many people come and go over the past 25 years and yet he not only has survived this environment he has managed to stay humble, caring and helpful. Robert has turned his life around and can continue to be a productive and free citizen. One day I would like to shake Roberts' hand at a meeting on the outside. I hope that you will carefully consider this request. Sincerely, Mark J. Paul
